Bribie Beach Bash

2009-10-11 Bribie Bash Fun Run 280-1600 Each year the Bribie Beach Bash Fun Run is held. It has a 3km, 6km, 10km, 15km, half marathon and marathon in it. I did the 6km and the rest of the family did the 3km.

Once again I am impressed with the running community. There are friendly faces everywhere and everyone is out there having fun despite the distance they are running. Quite a few people said hello and/or encouraged me in some way, even those I have not met before.

Overall the even was a fun one, very low key and jovial. I even came away with a lucky door prize (a powerade running hat).

I did the 6km run because I wanted to push myself. Initially I set myself a time limit of an hour to do the 6km in, then when I was told it is more difficult to run in sand, it is slow and hard going I pushed that back. I wasn’t going to focus so much on getting in on time as I was going to focus on just finishing. In the end I did make it in under an hour (58 minutes). I didn’t run the whole way but I did jog, walk, jog, walk, etc. I would jog for 1 minute then walk for a minute (well I counted to 60), and when that got tiring I would count to 20 multiple times before walking for a little, then it was giving myself fixed focal points to jog to, then walk to, etc. It was fun and I did push myself. In a fortnight’s time I plan on doing it all over again, just this time it will be on a bush track and 9km.
